For me, ‘taking one’s stand’ is not a means of evaluating whether or not you have measured up to external standards. But rather it is a way of evaluating your life against internal standards, of the heart and soul, in order to establish whether you have begun to acquire bright, calm, unhurried introspection, and therefore whether you have reached a state where you can deal confidently and decisively with your own affairs.
